Bendy and the ink machine is an action-puzzle game in the genre of action-horror. The game is played in the first-person style, through the eyes of its protagonist Henry Stein. It is a beautiful cartoon world with lots of adventures available for most devices.
The environment of the game is a beautiful blend of real-life style and animated cartoon-style, the game’s visuals are so distinct that they alone keep the players invested in the game. The shallow lighting of the game, the jump scares by the cartoony monsters, the pleasantly disturbing sound-track and an engaging storyline (uncovered by collecting story logs throughout the game) combine to create a memorable gameplay experience. Apart from killing monsters to survive the game also employs puzzle-solving in order to advance further
There are several online communities for Bendy and the Ink Machine, where one can discuss level difficulties and share his experiences with various players across the globe. There are numerous hidden secrets, combat, horror, puzzles, and many more to experience varied gameplay.
The game starts with Henry Stein, a retired animator, being offered to return to his old animation studio by Henry’s former employer via a letter. Henry accepts this offer and visits the studio’s premise. He is shocked to see that the studio is in ruins and fanatically searches for any signs that can indicate the reason behind the studio’s current state. He soon finds an odd ink machine in the basement and is immediately attacked by a monster, who looked identical to the studio’s mascot.
Henry escapes the monster but unfortunately gets caught by the falling rubble from the roof and passes out. On waking up he realizes that the ink machine has brought the cartoon characters of the studio to life. Now the player (in the role of Henry) have to find a way out of the studio while fighting the monster, discovering the reason behind the studio’s current state in the process.
The gameplay relies heavily on melee weapons for defense and for killing monsters. Although long-ranged weapons like guns and crossbows are also available, they are too few and too far in between. The player can restore his health by consuming soup-cans, scattered throughout the factory.
Overall, Bandy and the Ink Machine is a unique game, if not for the gameplay, then for the visuals only. The environment is deeply immersive and the gratification of killing stage bosses is extremely high. Overall, this game should be played at least by seasoned players.
